Supplement: how the current TechStat service handles information

Added November 6, 2026. This supplement describes the service as it works today and is part of the Policy above.

People who are notified. Organizations that use TechStat add the people they want to notify, usually their own employees, or those people sign up themselves. We process their name, the addresses where they want to be told (email now; Slack, Microsoft Teams or webhook URLs; a phone number only if text messages are switched on and the owner of the number confirms it), the services they follow, and a private link for managing their own preferences. We process this for the organization, to deliver its notifications. A person can pause or stop notifications from the link in any message, or ask the organization or us to remove them. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 7 days.
Delivery records. We keep what was sent to whom, when, and whether it arrived, including bounces and complaints reported by our email provider. For webhooks we record only the host name, not the full address.
Service providers. Amazon Web Services hosts the service and sends email (Amazon SES); data is stored in the United States. Stripe processes payments, and we never see or store card numbers. Cloudflare Turnstile checks the sign-up form for bots and sees your browser and IP address.
Cookies. We use only cookies the site needs to work: a session cookie, a security token, an optional "remember me" cookie and your light/dark preference. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Text messages. Text messages are not switched on yet. When they are, we will message a phone number only after its owner has added and confirmed it. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help. We do not share phone numbers or opt-in consent with third parties for marketing.
